Major, Gyöngyi; economist, philosopher

Gyöngyi Major (1969) is an associate professor, MA of economic science, member of the Public Body of the Hungarian Science Academy. She graduated from the University of Novi Sad, Depart-ment of Economy in Subotica. She wrote her PhD theses in the same place. She has an MA degree from Corvinus University (former Budapest University of Economical Sciences) in European Studies. She has also attained to the Central European University.

Professional experiences:

Polytechnic College of Subotica, Gábor Dénes College and College of Dunaújváros (lecturer); INFIDENT research group in Corvinus University (researcher). First she worked for the Economical Institute in Beograd. She also participated in the common project of the South Carolina University and the UN University titled “Creating Effective Partnerships for Sustain-able Development”.

Research areas:

sustainable development and the new models of existence.

Intellectual profile:

In general, she is interested in the new self-interpretation of man. Making the delimitations of ap-proach visible means to grab the chance, by which today’s mind can—some later—live its way to the putative entireness as strangulation instead of freedom. The peril of the unsustainable exis-tence comes—as Major thinks—from the deviation of mind. Today in her opinion only one of the faces of the world is visible, the one which is well known by the mirror of human consciousness. However, she trusts that by the innovation of existence the Intelligent Nature can be reinstated in the multidimensional pulsation of the Universe. Her hope for transformability of the intellectual field keeps her motivated to go on with her work.

Major publications:

Prinudno sletanje (Zadužbina Andrejević, Beograd, 2001)

Other activities:

In her spare time, she swims, plays the piano and visits ice revues and concerts.
